I showed in a previous post a dress turned into a top that I made for a wedding in August. Here is what I ended up making and wearing to it.
I have several black skirts that I have made over the years, so I thought the next attempt would just be a top that I could wear that would skim over my mum tum and hit me at a good spot on my hips. I made a similar top over a year ago. I used a princess seamed block I have, added some width to the bottom of the middle front of the top, and had the circle peplum go around to meet the center front panel.
I was inspired by this top (source: Borodulin, Fall-Winter 2017, Moscow):
The fabric here is a polyester of some sort. I had bamboo and cotton lycra to choose from, but I wanted something with more structure to it. I added the HTV accents, which are my drawings.
I added HTV accents to the center front, side and back.
This is such a fun top to wear!
The day of the wedding, it was hot as hell out, so I opted for a shorter skirt with the top. It was outside, and luckily the sun was under clouds for most of the ceremony. We all were sweaty messes by the time it was done, though. I had to run back to the hotel with one of the kids, so I put my hair up in a ponytail since having it down was way too hot.
My girl wore this dress that I made her last fall. She had only worn it for the strike-off pictures, so I took the sleeves off and made it sleeveless. She looked pretty cute in it, and we got 2 wears out of it. Yay?
