One skirt pattern, that is. I used the pattern from this skirt to make these skirts. One thing I did differently is that I made the top part into a double-lined piece. It is essentially a “tummy-tuck”. The fabrics I used all had a bit of stretch to them, so this extra fabric around the tummy kept everything nice and controlled. Built in control-top!
Pattern
The first skirt is the plainest, and the one I will probably wear the most. The front and the back are the same. I didn’t add a zipper or anything on it. It’s a tight squeeze to get it on over the hips, but it works. This is a black/white pinstripe.
Fancy hair…and roots!
The second skirt I cut a bit out the back and added a flounce. Again no zipper or anything. This is the tightest of the skirts, as I mistakenly sewed the wrong side to the right side and had to cut the seam off. This will be worn with a long shirt, that is for sure. The color was a bit off in these. It is white with a black and brown pinstripe.
This next one, I cut the bottom part out at an angle, put in a short zipper and added cargo pockets. This is the first time I tried cargo pockets, and they weren’t horrible to put in. I would guess it would be easier with fabric that has less stretch. It got kind of wonky looking, but that’s okay. I added the zipper because I didn’t think it really had enough stretch to it. I really like this one…so this one may get worn the most.
I might have to make a few more of these, because I really like how they fit. Right now this is enough, though. Lots of other things on the sewing table. 🙂
Great skirts, isn’t is such fun to change up a basic pattern for many different looks.
I am in awe of your fancy hair. Gorgeous. You rocked these skirts. Visiting your blog is always inspirational. I wish I could be half as productive as you are in one week.
I’m with Jen – I stopped scrolling and just soaked in that hair! And your productivity puts the rest of us to shame. I really, really like the cargo skirt, too. It is so cute!
Oh man, I WANT that last skirt! How fun – I bet you’ll start a trend with the cargo pocket skirt 😉
I’m always in awe! Love the skirts, love the hair, and I have to say you’re looking fantastic!! Thanks for the motivation to get out and enjoy the (finally) warmer weather!
Love that last skirt! Is it a denim fabric?
Could you maybe do a tutorial for the pockets? I have been looking for an easy skirt like this for a long time. Also, how did you measure your body to make the pattern? I’m really interested in knowing so I can make some too:)

You are very skilled seamstress! Thank you for sharing your creations.
Love all these innovations. My fave is the flounced back though. Great idea to put in control tummy. I could do with a bit of that right now 🙁
