This week, I am up over at Gracious Threads (oops, guess it is next week!) for her Embellish is for Boys series. She is showing some great options for making boy clothes more fun!
I am showing how to use vinyl iron-on from my Silhouette machine to dress up boy clothes. I bought this stencil from the Silhouette store as I still have store credit from buying the machine. The vinyl I used for this shirt was Grey Stripflock Heat Transfer Vinyl.
There are a lot of tutorials online in how to cut with a Silhouette machine, so I won’t go into that here. Just know that I find my machine to be quite useful and fun for embellishing my kids clothes. It is nice to be able to quickly cut out detailed designs. If I didn’t sew a lot, I probably wouldn’t fork over the money for the machine, but since I do…yeah, it is so nice to have.
Here is the process I used in putting it on the shirt:
Here is his embellished shirt, which is from Ottobre 3/2010. The outfit is #35 and #36.
I like to make matchy outfits for my kids, and I am getting much better at putting in zippers for REAL pants and shorts. It is not as intimidating as it used to be, so I am willing to tackle some of these projects that might otherwise be too intimidating.
Here some more pictures of these fun cargos, which I did cut shorter than they were in the Ottobre. They were clam digger length and I cut them to be knee length on him.
I don’t understand the current styles of boys shorts which are basically capris, and how the girls shorts are basically glorified underwear.
As you can see…I forgot to get the chalk off for the welt pockets. Oh well, it’s not like he noticed. A good washing will make it go away. 🙂
I used some nice soft knits for the top, and he said it felt like jammies. I think that is a pretty good indication that it is comfy!
Why yes, our deck is falling apart. It is actually slightly separating from the house. This year may be the year for it to go. Houses…such a money pit!
Stacy, that is one great boy’s outfit, from embellishment to fabric. Had to chuckle at your comment on short lengths, unfortunately it is true.
It’s so professional!
Thanks so much, Ladies! 🙂
what a lucky boy to have you as his mom… this looks great.
