The blade that was broken

May 1, 2018

All that is gold does not glitter,

Not all those who wander are lost:

The old that is strong does not wither,

Deep roots are not reached by the frost;

From the ashes, a fire shall be woken,

A light from the shadow shall spring;

Renewed shall be blade that was broken,

The crownless again shall be king.

~ Gandalf in a letter to Frodo

While the first book in the Lord of the Rings trilogy was dry and overly long, the rest of them were quite entertaining.  I made sure to finish them all before the movies were released, and I think Peter Jackson did a pretty good job on getting the epic journey onto film.  However, the little Hobbit book didn’t quite necessitate four movies like it’s predecessor.  They were fun to watch, though!

This week’s sewing comes to you courtesy of the LOTR movies/books and Moonbeam Textiles.

The last time she ran LOTR fabrics, I was not sewing up samples for her.  I bought quite a bit of the fabric.  I’m sure I will be buying from this round, too.  Most of the fabrics are different this round.  The only exceptions are the Elvish script in green and the Hobbit meal panel.

There are more panels in this round that include the Riders of Rohan, the Ents, the Dwarves and the great Eye.

All very cool.

I got these panels and the coordinate for Aragorn.  I have another panel that I will post about separately.

The patterns here were ones that I drafted myself.  When I draft things, I usually have to make some changes to them as I sew them up.  The neckline was adjusted a bit from the pattern pieces and I made the armhole bigger to accomodate the binding.  The skort is one I drafted last year, and I’m sure I will have one in every color of the rainbow soon.  They are sure to be my summer staple.

Here are the steps I used to make this top.  The pieces on the top of the front were doubled up.  If you notice in the worn pictures, I ended up raising the hem.  It covered up the motif on the skirt, so it needed a little change.

Now, here are the inside pictures.  I finished this outfit on a weekend we got 16″ of snow.  I’ll probably try to get some outside pictures yet, but we will see how much time I have for that endeavor.

Here are the different prints.  The pre-order starts on May 1 and ends on May 21.
