I have liked the look of sling bags, so I thought I would draft up a simple one to start out with. I perused Pinterest, and there are a lot of different versions:
I went for a front pocket with a snap flap and a top zipper. Not as detailed as some of the versions above, but I wanted to get the shape down first.
I decided to make this first one out of a camo canvas with just leather on the pocket and tabs. The size is about 8.5″ x 6″, so not very big.
In doing the construction it became apparent that I need a different way to do it. While it made for a nice finish inside, I had to turn it twice and if I try that with leather it won’t work. Leather in small spaces is really, really hard to turn. Heck it is hard to turn a big bag!
The front pocket is a just a smidge too short. It needs another inch. I can fit my phone in it with the snap closed, but it is a tight fit and the flap pulls quite a bit.
Overall the size is good, but I might want to make it a little more elongated. I definitely need to increase the size of the front pocket.
I gave this one to my girl, and she did like it. 🙂 She likes army green and has several things it will work with.
Next up is a bucket-style bag that I am working on, too. The pattern also needs some work, but still should turn out nice enough.
