Random stuff for little ones

A few girly things…

Birthday gift for one of Anya’s girlfriends

I really wasn’t going to make a gift for this party.  I was busy and stressed and really didn’t want to have to sew a dress.  Then I thought the little girl would feel bad if I didn’t make her one when I’ve made gifts for some of the other girls.  *sigh*  GUILT.  It was on a Friday night, so I took off a few hours early from work.  Then proceeded to speed sew, which is always bad.  The seam ripper was used a bunch.  This was not my best work, so she got another gift besides.  Apparently it was good enough for her to wear on Easter, though.  Her Dad was really impressed, said it fit her perfectly, and the little girl told me I should make stuff to put in the store.  Ah, I guess it was worth the stress afterall…

Another birthday gift for another one of her friends.  Anya picked out the fabric, which is a pink seersucker with butterflies.  It is lined with the white cotton.  The last bits of this fabric.  This is the pattern I have in the tutorial section for the cross-front dress.

This one took a bit longer…3-some odd hours to make, but the birthday girl and her parents thought it was pretty great.   If I got a lukewarm response from these gifts, I’m sure I would stop making them.  It is nice that they are well received.

Then Anya needed some pink pants that weren’t too short for her.  Oh how I love springtime.  They have grown out of all their clothes I made in the previous fall, but I don’t really want to make a bunch of new stuff that won’t fit them next fall.  It’s a quandry.  I quick made these leggings/pants out of fleece.  Fleece pants and short-sleeved shirt.  Gosh, I love spring weather!  It’s nothing if not unpredictable.

She’s wearing it with a blingy shirt we got her in Vegas.  There’s nothing wrong with a 6 year old wearing a blingy shirt from Vegas, right?  At least it doesn’t say “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.” 😉

Cute little girl with a side of Kitty butt and messy room

Now this is my first attempts at the summer wardrobe.  The first one is a tunic and capri pants.  I made a dress for me  with the tunic print and she really wanted a dress herself with it.  There wasn’t really enough for a full dress, so I made a shirt.  Then a pair of capri pants with lacy elastic at the bottoms.

This skort is a copy of an Adidas one she had for soccer.  It has bike shorts underneath connected at the waistband.  The tiers are cut like a circle skirt, so they are “flounced” and not “gathered”.  This turned out really cute and so comfy.  She can run and jump and go upside down and still twirl.  The shirt has appliques of the skirt fabric with Heat ‘N Bond.  Just ironed them on and then stitched.

The summer sewing has begun.  I plan on making Anya more of those skorts since she doesn’t have much other than dresses.  Sometimes she actually needs to wear shorts, so these are a good alternative for our girly girl!

  1. I totally would have worn that first dress as a kid… and maybe as an adult 🙂 Love the damask and the dropped waist, so pretty!

I’m sure people rave about your gifts – you’ve kinda become a victim of your own success, no? 🙂

  2. I didn’t know it was possible to do too much sewing. Rainy, gloomy weather does make me want to sew though or at least I don’t feel as guilty about sewing all day. Everything you made turned out so cute.

  3. Goo start on the summer wardrobes! I LOVE that second dress with the white panels. Good choice on the fabric Anya. And the skort is brilliant. The BA had a few skorts but this one is particularly nice….
