I know…so exciting!
I am like most people, I think, where underwear is the last thing you think about replacing…and the most often worn. I have had the same batch I bought from Victoria’s Secret at least 8 years ago, and they were in not great shape. Add to the fact that my butt is not the same size it was 8 years ago…well, it was time for replacement.
I have made a pair here and there out of various cottons to try to recreate those VS pairs that I like. I made a few more adjustments to the pattern and then went diving into my custom cotton lycra scrap pile. Seriously, after the last few years of sewing up samples, I had so many nice scrap pieces of fabric. Not big enough for anything, really, but I didn’t want to throw them away. They worked perfectly for this project!

I had originally made my underwear pattern in just one piece, but I cut it apart to make it easier to use up scraps.
I also did a zigzag topstitch on those seams so they lay nice and flat.

I had purchased quite a bit of underwear lace over the last few years, so I was able to utilize that for most of the pairs. Now I mostly have not big enough scraps of that. I had also purchased a bunch of FOE when my daughter was in gymnastics for her leotards. I ended up using a bit of that here, too. When putting on the lace and FOE around the legs, you don’t stretch it at all. If you do, they will end up too tight.

Sorry for the crappy pictures. They were with my cell phone at night, and I was so excited for my new comfy undies that I wore them right away! These took about 45 minutes to make per pair, I would guess, from cutting to sewing up. The FOE takes longer to put on than the lace. I also topstitched with a zigzag stitch everything, including the lace edges to give them more support.
I think I might make a few more with my scraps. These were such a quick, satisfying project!
