I had to do some teacher crafting for Valentine’s Day. I doubt very much that they would want a packet of Fun Dip like the rest of the kids. Yes, I was lazy with the children’s Valentines, per the usual.
This is a nice small gift for the teachers and the one teaching assistant. I got them a $5 coffee card and then made a pretty, simple coffee sleeve to go with it. I just snagged one of the paper sleeves, took it apart, added seam allowances and created a pattern. I used a pretty fabric on one side that the Girl picked out and felt on the other. Hopefully, they will like them!
Then I made a new pants design for the Boy. Made and Made by Rae are doing their Celebrate the Boy month starting Tuesday and I thought I would get a few things made for my boy.
I love this design, which was inspired by UK menswear Braille. They have a pair of shorts that had a pocket like this, and I wanted to use that pocket design for a pair of pants. It needs tweaking, but I still like the lines of it. The pocket area is too wide – especially on the back. I will change that part the next time I make them. The interior of the pocket is the same Batik fabric as the waistband.
These are faux fly pants, as I am still too lazy to put a proper zipper in his pants. He doesn’t really care at this point anyways. If they would last longer than a season I probably would, but he just wears them out. The snap at the side seam is purely decorative. I didn’t have ones with a long enough prong to go through everything. Instead I just went over the top stitching in order to keep the pockets from billowing out.
The shirt is a dark olive green and black. I drew out the stencil and used a lime green paint. It didn’t turn out very dark, though. I probably should have gone over it a few more times. I definitely need to lengthen this shirt the next time I do it, too.
I also made a pair in a jean material with this embroidered corduroy. I made him a pair of pants with this corduroy before and they are about too short right now. He definitely needed more pants! I’ll try to get a modeling shot of him wearing them this week and get it up here.
The vast majority of this past week has been spent at my computer making up our 2010 photo book with Blurb. I finally got it done and uploaded and ordered today. Yay! That was about all the energy I had, since I was blowing my nose every few minutes. I got the coffee cozies done on Thursday night and the rest on Saturday. Hopefully, I will have the energy to tackle my skirt this week. I just know it’s going to be a pain to make. Ah, procrastination…you are my lifelong friend!
Those pants look awesome. I rarely sew anything for my poor little guy. I am excited about Celebrate the Boy. Can’t wait to see some of the awesome projects.
These pants are COOL. They have a bit of a skater feel to them. Did you come up with that pocket design yourself? Awesome! I don’t think your stencil was too light, unless it’s just the photo? It shows up great!
oh..those pants are so, so cool! and i love the cozies, too!
hope you are feeling better…
