Well, it was more sewing for Anya this week.
This first one is a “sorta” tiered-maxi skirt for her out of fabric that I have had in my stash for quite awhile. I made a maternity skirt out of it, originally, and this skirt used up the rest of the fabric. It isn’t a stretchy material, but some sort of poly. It doesn’t go all the way down on the ground on her. I didn’t want it super long, so as it would get in the way of her playing.
The shirt is a black lycra knit that has a floral design in it. It’s hard to photograph that part. The ruffle is a chiffon that was leftover from patching up an ice skating costume for a friend’s daughter. I did a rolled edge hem and then a gathering seam to ruffle it up. I pinned it on the shirt and ziz-zag stitched it on. Next, I took out the ruffle thread. I had to hand sew the flower on it.
This next outfit is part refurb.
This is a shirt I bought for me to wear. It was on sale, and thank goodness for that! I washed it in cold and hung it to dry and it became a belly shirt. Not a good look on a 38-year-old woman whom has had kids.
I figured I could remake the shirt into something for Anya. I kept the neck seams and the bottom seam intact. That is how short it was. I did the side seams like the original shirt, enclosing the hems in the top layer. That way the sequins on the seam edge won’t bother her. I had to cut the bottom edge of the top sequin layer off anyways, since the hems were not even after the shrinking (as you can see above – the knit is above the sequin layer at the hem).
FYI – Don’t try to serge sequin fabric. I was trying to finish the seam on the inside and broke 3 needles. Definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results.
I finally just gave up and called it good. Needles are expensive.
The skirt was a piece of knit fabric from a one-off run at the store where I buy my fabric. They are a fabric mill, so they had some samples printed up on smaller pieces of fabric (less that 1 yard, mostly). I used pretty much the whole piece for this simple skirt.
Then she modeled this dress for me. She actually modeled a few more that I had made, but moved so much while she was modeling that they were all blurry. Ah well, she will wear them eventually.
I also got these bottoms done to match a swimsuit top I made her before. The bottoms were a bit snug when I made it, and she quickly outgrew them. These are the replacements.
There is another outfit mostly done, but not done…so I will wait to post that next week. She probably doesn’t need too much more for summer, but not sure that will stop me from making her more stuff. It’s fun making cute little things. 🙂
Isn’t this like your busy time of the year, too? Woman…you never cease to amaze me. I didn’t get one stitchin’ thing done this week and you have an entire wardrobe done for her! And an adorable one at that!!
Still love looking at what you cook up! Love the way that second to last dress looks on her!!And the pink tiered skirt rocks too! All good!! I have some remodels to do but I haven’t been game to get started. Manyana.
Anya is a fashionista and you are a very creative mom, great job.
She is going to be stylin’ this summer that is for sure!! I wish I was half as productive as you are in a normal week.
