Well, it is cold here. That dang Polar Vortex hit earlier this year, but right now it feels like April. A brief reprieve for the bone chilling cold that is sure to come back soon.
Thus…warm scarves!
I made them using the tutorial I put together previously.
This first one is shorter than the tutorial by about 10 inches. I wouldn’t recommend doing that unless you like a tighter scarf. It is more comfortable to wear if you have the measurements in the tutorial. I was short on fabric, and I really wanted to use the soft sherpa-like fabric so I just dealt with it.
The check is a wool and the edging is a tan lambskin. I hurt myself putting in the snaps on this one, when they were taking a lot of pounding with the hammer to get them on tight. I missed the setter and got my thumb. Ouch!
I think I need a new setting tool, so next time I go to Tandy Leather I will be buying one.
This next scarf is from some Ralph Lauren wool and a black fleece. The gray leather is cowhide and the snaps were from Tandy Leather again.
I didn’t hurt myself on this one. I was careful.
I actually did try to line up the stripes. I doubt anyone would really notice until I pointedly showed it like I am doing here.
I also made another one as a gift for a friend. It was a red/black flannel and black fleece. I took a picture…just not sure where it is right now.
Funny story: I wore the tan scarf to a girls weekend at the cabin to celebrate our friend’s birthday. They all gushed over my scarf when I came in, so I gave my friend the gift bag right away. It sat there unopened for a good hour while they told me I should try to sell them. Finally, she opened her gift and taunted the other ladies with her new scarf!
Last Thursday, I also made an infinity scarf for a Christmas party with one of my bunco groups. It was white minky on one side and the gray terry of my shirt above. Super fluffy and soft. I almost kept it myself! Otherwise, I didn’t get as much done as I needed this past weekend. I just read a few books, did a lot of laundry and lazed about. I shall pay for it later.
Less than two weeks to Christmas…and I have no presents bought. I think it is a record for me…and not a good one!
Those are gorgeous scarves and great job having one for your friend, too. I hope your thumb feels better.
Thanks, Lori! My thumb took about a week to feel better, but it has recovered. I hit it pretty hard, too LOL!
Such great fabrics and so professional looking with those snaps!
Thanks, Rachel!
That is Awesome! I love these so much -but not the smashed thumb:(
AND WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON THIS YEAR?? I bought exactly one present so far,
I am feeling grossly unprepared!!
Thanks, Michelle! I do love these scarves, and I have more fabric and leather and snaps. I got a new setter, so hopefully I won’t hurt myself again!
Glad I am not the only one unprepared. I have Friday afternoon set aside for some shopping, though!
WOW Stacy these are so cute! I’m going to have to check out your tutorial
Thanks Beth! They are pretty quick to make, so go for it!
