As per the usual for the last few years, the kids did not want me to make their Halloween costumes. The Boy wanted to go as a Transformer. He really wanted a “bad guy” Transformer, but I couldn’t find any in his size. Instead he got an amped up Bumblebee costume. Totally worth the money for the few hours he would spend in it <-insert sarcasm here->.
*sigh*
He loved the costume, though, and it was pretty sweet.
Oh yeah, and it was a sized 10/12 and was still “high-water” on him. I am thinking their sizing is off a bit. I mean I know he is tall for almost 10, but it shouldn’t be 2-3 inches too short for that size.
The Girl wanted to be an $80 eskimo from Chasing Fireflies – accessories sold separately, of course! I wasn’t going to buy that one, but I found something similar on Zulily. It was more of a snowflake princess dress thing, but it was close enough. It was also around $20, so much cheaper.
I took off the bows and the puffy princess sleeves. I added warm sweatshirt fleece sleeves, made her some warm pants and a minky/flannel scarf.
Then, here are the shirts I made them for school. The night before, of course! They can’t wear costumes to school, but it was crazy hair day. They got spray painted hair. The Boy is green and the Girl has pink stripes. These are appliqués that Aunt Susie gave me to use for them. I make the shirts a little extra big so they can wear them next year, too. Got to get a little more use of them than just one day!
The Boy said they did have a bit of a party in his room. They played bingo and got candy, so I guess there was some celebration. He also said another kid wanted his shirt. I guess having potential shirt stealers means that it was a good shirt! 🙂
Those are great costumes and I cannot believe how big they are getting.
awesome! so smart of you to customize for MN weather!
