When I “decide” to draw things that I put on pieces of clothing or purses…I have a very loose idea of what I want. Most of the things I draw in less than a minute. Usually, it takes me about 10 seconds. I am all about being quick.
I have bought sketch pads over the years and got another one at Michael’s the other day. I’d actually like to draw some real things that take more than a minute to draw. Seeing as I am spending so much time as the baseball/softball fields this summer…I gots lots of time to get better at drawing!
So…what does this look like to you?
They are kind of Rorschach versions of dragons.
I did actually intend them to look kind of like this. I had a vague idea in my head when I drew these appliqués, which is more than I usually have in my head when I draw designs.
This purse was made out of a pair of suede pants that I haven’t worn in about 5 years. The opposite side is suede, but I liked this side better. I am going to have to put leather protector spray on it. It seems to mark up pretty easily since it is so soft. The dark brown pieces were ones I bought, and I had to make the 3 narrow pieces I bought work with the purse design.
I put feet on the purse to keep the leather off of surfaces. I didn’t have any zippers that matched so one one of the inside pockets I used a magnetic snap. I also have a magnetic snap for the overall closure on the purse.
The handle is made from cut strips of the heavy brown leather woven in a chain I bought in the jewelry section at Michael’s. I hand sewed the chain at the top and the bottom of the strips so it would stay in place. The top of the strap are two of the tan leather pieces sewed onto a woven strapping piece. I knew the leather would stretch too much if it didn’t have a solid base. It is pretty soft leather.
Now I have some blush silk that I’d like to use to make another bag. I need to figure out what to do to make it so it is a bit more durable than a silk bag would be normally.
Then perhaps some summer clothes for the kids?? Or me?? There is a lot of fabric sitting on my cutting table just waiting to be used!
