When I asked her what she wanted me to make her for Fall/Winter, she said, “I don’t care.”
Huh.
“What color?”
“I don’t care.”
Rigggghhhhtttt.
She doesn’t care until presented with what I made, and then I get the look.
Coming at her fall wardrobe with a blank slate was not where I wanted to be, but I forged ahead with things I think would be cool for her.
Sunburst Outfit
This outfit is based off this top and tank from CAbi’s Fall 2013 line. I had also made a tank with a overshirt for her last winter and she wore that a lot. I figured this would work.
This was not a hard outfit to make. The pants are a velvety snakeskin knit, the tank is just a simple tank bound in the snakskin knit, and the shrunken sweatshirt is just a larger version of a knit shirt.
The shrunken sweatshirt had a mistake on it…the hood. I put it on wrong. That just means it is a very DEEP hood. I think it still looks cute.
She gave me the meh look when I showed it to her. Then I put it on her. Seriously cozy…it’s like wearing a teddy bear. I was going to make a pair of lounge pants for me out of the rest of the fabric, but no dice. Not enough left for me.
Story of my life…
The sunburst was a purchased rhinestone applique that I bought an age ago. Apparently. It was a mess. Some of the sticky undersides of the rhinestones were coming off and they were all akimbo. I reset and took some out of the design, so if it looks not quite right that is the reason for it.
Orange Animals
The animal print was two sample knits that are the same print in two slightly different colorways. They were some odd, less than a yard, sizes. I wasn’t able to get arms out of the rest after cutting out the circle skirt, so I used a different brown for it.
The leggings are made of a crinkle knit. I didn’t make them too tight, so hopefully they are comfy.
The shirt is a part upcycled silk sweater. It was a vest of mine, but some seams ripped and I decided to just use it to upcycle. I had to do some creative cutting to get it to work.
Stars and Stripes
I have seen several shirts with some sort of embellishment on the shoulder area, so I tried to do this for the shirt in this outfit. The knit is a bit sparkly. One side is itchier than the other, but it is hard to tell the wrong side from the right side. This means that one of the sides is right (itchy) side facing inward to her delicate princess skin.
She put it on, and yeah…itchy. Hopefully, she will still wear it.
The pants are a design I came up with, and I should have made the pockets larger. She tried it on and she can fit her hand in there, but just barely. Oh well, I tried, and it isn’t like she usually uses her pockets anyways.
So…she doesn’t like this outfit.
As perhaps is obvious…
Pink Ruffles
This is a pre-ruffled fabric, and it was a hit with the girl. The fabric is a bit sheer, so I made sure the skirt was plenty wide enough. The shirt is double layered on the ruffle part, so it won’t be see through and it will be warm in the winter.
The fleece pants I made to go with the shirt, too. She wants them for jammie pants, though, so I will make another shirt to go with it.
She’s so camera shy, it’s almost painful to watch isn’t it?? 😉
Wow, Stacy! You have such a fantastic eye for fabric and color combinations. Her outfits are so cute!
Amazing job on all the outfits, just wait until you get the teenager look!
An amazingly comprehensive collection. I kept thinking, oh, that’s it… and then there was ANOTHER outfit! So many amazing things to comment on…
Firstly: you know your gal is model material don’t you?
2) That shrunken hoodie is SO cute and cosy looking. Don’t care what you did or didn’t do right, it looks amazing. I want one!
3)I love your upcycling. I so wish I was game/talented enough to try this kind of thing. That orange top is gorgeous, especially with the skirt.
4) Shame about the itchy fabric. I have always found that to be a deal breaker :-(. Shame because the neck embellishments look great.
And I actually want a pair of those jammie pants too 🙂
Life has been hard at this end but I am hoping to get into some sewing soon. School hols are a week away, ohboyohboyohboy etc
WOW! I love all of these pieces! Amazing!
Love all these great outfits.
I love all of these looks, but the first does look so comfy! I’ll take one in my size!
What a great collection with a fun mix of styles and fabrics!
