FA Fashion week line – The Warrior outfit

October 14, 2018

This was a fun outfit to make, and I was going more for a post-apocalyptic look for it.  A strong, fierce female.  I have a board on Pinterest where I gathered a bunch of ideas, and then started working on drafting my vision.

The Jacket:

The first item had to be this little jacket.  I have wanted to make one for quite awhile. It was part of my #makenine for the year, and I finally got time to draft it.  The inspiration photo on Pinterest looks like something someone would have made on Etsy, but the link is just an image link, so not sure of the source.

To draft it, I started out with a princess-seamed fitted top pattern.  I traced out my pattern, ending it around mid-back for the back and above mid-breast for the top.  Then I started shaping my pieces.  I added an overlap for the middle front piece, and made it curve around down to mid-back.

I started out with just placing my pattern pieces on my dressform to determine their final shape, and then I made the lining of the jacket body first.  That fit, so then I made the rest of it with a quilted knit.  The collar has the quilted knit and a Sherpa fabric.

I didn’t have the right hardware at first, so finally got time to go to Tandy Leather and picked up some different closures.  I decided on these and then put them on with rivets.  It looks pretty cool in the end!

If you want to try your hand at this type of jacket, I saw a lot of fun leather closures on Pacific Trimmings.

The Top:

The top is similar to this top, only I added some layers to the peplum, long sleeves and a cowl collar.

I used a princess seamed knit top pattern I had drafted and modified it to have the peplum meet the middle front panel.  It has a high low look to it.  I added layers to the peplum that I just rough cut out.

The Pants:

The pants I used my jogger pattern, and then slimmed the legs a bit and made it more straight-leg.  I made the initial pattern and then cut it all apart for the different pieces.  The waist is a ponte lycra, the top pieces are pleather, then thorns brushed poly, then it is a pleather/ponte alternating piece and the bottom of the legs are both ponte and the thorn brushed poly.

I made a piece that had the alternating ponte and pleather fabrics, then I cut out the pattern pieces from that.  It is too hard to make sure it all matches up otherwise.

This was hard to sew due to all of the curves on it, but I think it turned out pretty cool in the end!
