Cute little cami and a fun outfit

This cami is a nice quick sew from The Simple Life Pattern company.  It is a good wardrobe staple, that the Girl did not have as of yet.  Of course, after I made two of them she said she doesn’t like tank tops.  I think she feels too exposed in them, so more sewing was in order.

I used my new cotton lycra fabric for this tester version, and it worked up nice and quick.

As the designer wanted a SLPCO bottom for the tester shots, I made up the Emilya’s at bermuda length.  These are the pants that I tested last year.  It is mostly the length of her legs that have grown, so I still made the 8W and 12L.

I made them  in white.

I know.  My sanity should be in question here.

I had this white stretch corduroy in my stash for several years, so it needed to get made into something.  I might still make myself a pair of skinny jeans out of the rest.  Hope I have enough.  Yet another fabric I bought for me that has been sacrificed for my daughter’s wardrobe.

I should have used a thinner fabric for the pockets, since they really show.  Or maybe I need to size it up.  The girl doesn’t like this length, so I cut them shorter (to the 4T bermuda length line) and hemmed them up.

Okay, so there is a little issue with the cami.  It has a little gap, which didn’t really show on the little girls, but for the older girls it does gap a little when they bend their shoulders forward or lean over.  She did reduce the binding length, to stretch it to fit closer to the body.  I think there is still a little gaping, though.  I think if you used FOE, it would probably hold better than fabric binding.

As she did not like the exposed feeling, I made her a little crop top to go over the cami.  I basically re-drafted the color-blocked top part of the new Nivalis tunic, and used the sleeve from Hibernis.  I took the cut parts from the tunic and just lowered the hemline on them by about 4 or so inches for the front and dipped it in the back by another 2″.  The band around the bottom was 75% of the width of the hem.

The pants here are the Domi Sweatpants, and I added silver beads to the end of the cording at the waist.  Anne of Sofilantjes gave us pre-testers a free pattern for making up multiple tops.  I had made three, so this was really nice and something that some pattern designers don’t do for their testers who make multiples for them.

Love how this outfit turned out, and I think she will wear it a lot, too. 🙂

I am linking this one up to Project Run and Play for the signature style week.  This really is my signature style, with my artwork on fabric and making clothes that my kids are comfortable wearing.

    1. Thanks, Michelle! Yes, I think she likes the outfit much better. You can tell she feels uncomfortable in just the cami. 🙁

  1. You never cease to amaze me with all of your creativity! I love your new backgrounds, so professional. Did you set something up in your basement??

    1. Thanks, Rachel! I have been setting up some backdrops in my basement to get better “professional” shots for the pattern testing I have been doing. I have a black fleece, cream twill and just got some seamless white paper. Photographing stuff in the winter is tough!

    1. Thanks, Kristi! I really like the Domi pants. They aren’t too low in the crotch and not too loose. It’s a nice fit.

  2. I’d never seen the Domi sweats before, just learned of them from the boy’s pattern survey – and now I know why they did so well! Those are ADORABLE! And your model is fabulously photogenic. Beautiful work all around!

    1. Thanks, Becca! Yes, the Domi’s are very cute and definitely unisex. I think the pockets could be a little deeper, so will likely do that on the next one I make.

  3. Oh, I really like the crop top over the cami! I need to keep this in mind for my girls. They love a good cami in Summer and I like them to something to cover up their shoulders when it’s very sunny. Those sweatpants are great too! I wonder if my oldest would let me make her some and actually wear them… (she’s very particular about pants)

    1. Thanks! These are pretty comfy pants, and they aren’t the low dropped crotch like a lot of the harem pants patterns. I would show her them at least!
