Comic book pants and velvet

October 26, 2011

Me:  I made you some cartoon pants!  They are pretty cool, huh?

Anya:  Mommy, that IS NOT a cartoon.

Me:  So sorry…COMIC book pants.  Still cool.

She wore them (even though they WERE NOT cartoon pants), albeit grudgingly.  When she got home she asked me to make a comic book shirt to go with them.

See…COOL.  She would only ask for more if she got a bunch of compliments on her coolness.  The shirt is a refurb from a shirt that I hadn’t worn in a few years.  It was pretty simple to redo.  I just cut new sleeves from the previous sleeves, keeping the underarm seam intact.  I added a pleat at the top to take into account the wider arm.  Then I used my basic shirt pattern to get the width of the shirt.  I cut the side seams and then used that pattern for the width.  I should have cut the shoulders a bit narrower, but it fits.  Sort of.  Hey…she has room to grow! 😉  The neckline was just open so I sewed some buttons on it to close it up.

Comic book fabric is stretch twill, and the shirt is knit and satin.

Next we have some velvet, or “rock star pants” per the girl.  I have a whole bunch of velvet in my stash, so I decided to use up some for little miss.  Initially the velvet was purchased for using as a backdrop/prop for photography sessions.   I do them as little as possible these days, so it was time to use it up!  I had to buy a knit to match, though.  At least that was on sale.

Early morning picture and a not-quite-awake Anya, thus she was not exactly in the best of moods.  Morning person, she is NOT.  I obviously need to take pictures of her right before bed when she is all awake and chatty.

Somehow I need to make them warm clothes to wear under their costumes this weekend.  I guess I should have done that last weekend??  Wish me luck!

  1. Delicious assortment as always! The comic book pants are a real winner as are the rock star velvet ones! I would totally have worn those too 🙂 I am super impressed by the re-do on your shirt! Brilliant idea and looks good! Should go with the comic book pants too.
    Productive week! Good job.

  2. She received several compliments from parents on the “comic” pants in just the time it took to pick her up from the YMCA afterschool program yesterday. Definitely a hit!

  3. Love that Brian commented! 🙂

And those pants had to be a hit… I would totally wear them!

Love the color of those velvet pants – swoon!
