Not only a great quote from the books, but a great outlook on life!
This top, along with the skirt, are basically what I like to sew. They have a bit of a steampunk flair to them, which is just so fun to wear.

The fabric on the top is from Moonbeam Textiles and is on pre-order from May 1 to May 21.
The panel here is from the current round, but the elvish script I purchased from the prior round. They are offering it again, so it should be pretty much the same thing.
This top was a princess seamed top that I drafted previously. It has double sleeves to have that split top sleeve. I used the panel for the front middle and the middle back. I added the gold rib knit to help separate the colors and to accentuate the gold writing and the gold in the seal on the panel. The plain green is a bamboo jersey in Moss from Nature’s Fabrics.
The skirt was based off a skirt I saw on Pinterest. It is basically made of a waist piece with some darts, a 4 godet skirt (though most are split with seams), an invisible zipper in the back, pockets in the side seams and I used leather and a decorative trim for the pickups. The hardware is from Tandy Leather and they were some sort of keychain thing.
The waist is doubled up, with a lining fabric. The skirt fabric is a bottom-weight with no stretch to it. I adjusted the pattern afterwards, since it is a little bigger than I would like.
Ring undone:
I purchased 3 yards of the trim and that was about right for this length of skirt.
I tried to match up the seams the best I could with them being on curves. It kind of worked.
It’s a pretty fun outfit…I’m sure it will make an appearance at the Ren Fest. Not really period accurate or anything, but I normally just wear something sort of in that vein.
If you are interested in the Lord of the Rings prints, the pre-order is open for a few weeks. I used up the rest of my Elvish script on this top. She has it in cream this time, so I may be snagging both colorways.
Fun outfit! I love the skirt with pickups and double sleeves!
Thanks Karen! It was a fun pattern to draft and work on. 🙂
