The 52 Week Sewing Challenge for this week was Sew Something Red. I already sewed up some underwear with some red in the fabric, but I wanted to do this, as well.
I have seen some Assassin’s Creed inspired hoodies on Pinterest with the red and black colors in them, and thought they looked cool. I decided to cut apart a pattern I drafted for this one.
The base pattern is one I did for this blue sweatshirt dress I made in December. I love this thing, and wear it all the time. It is so comfy and warm. The only problem is that I feel it needs a little more room in the bust area, and these design modifications helped. I really should have added more to the cowl, though. It was a tight fit. The bamboo sweatshirt fleece I use is only two way stretch, so it tends to have a bit less give that a 4 way knit would have.
The tribal design on the middle front is one of my designs. I took a picture of the pattern piece, and took it into Photoshop. I placed half of the design over the picture, and warped it so it would fit the pattern piece. I then doubled it up, made it an .svg file in Illustrator and took it into the Silhouette software to cut it out.
I should have left a little more room at the top, though, since having to stretch it to fit the cowl made it too close to the edge.
The back has the piecing, too, only I ended up using smaller seam allowances. I should have done the same for the front and back. Oh well. Things don’t always turn out great the first run of a new pattern draft.
This is so super comfy and warm! I know I will be wearing it a lot this cold winter.
The Assassins would be proud! It’s really, really nice!
Thank you!
