I did a little pre-summer sewing, just to get a few things off the to-make list. I had wanted to make this skort last year, but never got around to it. I cut out these two patterns in March and finally had a chance to make them up last weekend.
I have had the fabric for a few years now, as I ordered several of my designs on different bases from Nature’s Fabrics at one point.
I had not gotten around to using this swim/sport fabric. I had to creatively cut some of the pieces that I knew would show, since there was some random fading on this fabric. This did not happen on the other bases that I had printed.
You can see the waistband has some fading in it.
This skort is a pattern I drafted several years ago, and I have made at least 2 or 3 new ones each summer. I think I have around 10 of them by now.
It is really comfy with a pair of ponte spandex shorts underneath. There are two side pockets on the legs that I usually carry my phone in one of them. The back is a two layered flounce skirt, so it is pretty fun to wear.
The tank top is a slightly modified Sophia Top/Dress from Bella Sunshine Designs. I added more coverage for the racerback and adjusted the length to one that I like for this style of top, so it hits at mid-hip. Finding that “just right” length for your tops can make you love or not wear a top.
The fabric matches my daughter’s volleyball team colors and is from Nature’s Fabric. I think this one was a bamboo spandex, so it has a nice drape.
I also made a couple of other things, but I need to try them on to see if they will even get worn. One was definitely an experiment and it seemed to turn out. The question is…does it look good on me? More to come on those.
I will be trying to participate in a month-long sewing contest with some of my sewing friends, and that is coming up in the end of the month. I will try to sew each day for a little bit, which I know will not always happen with work and kids’ sports. Just trying to get some progress on some of my many things I want to get this done this year will be a win. 🙂
