A glittery black purse!

November 2, 2013

I decided I needed another purse.

“Need” being completely subjective, of course! 😉

I didn’t have a nice-sized “nice” black purse, so I had to make one.  Of course.  I bought this pleather fabric through fabric.com.  It is a black crocodile print with *~*SPARKLES*~*!  It is a fun print and I really liked how this bag turned out.  It is hard to photograph, as the fabric is pretty reflective.  It isn’t quite that shiny, though it is a little shiny.

Basics:

  • Same pattern as my other leather purses
  • Interior is a grayish-black stretch denim with black tiger stripes that don’t wash well.  Thus…can’t use it for apparel.  I found this out after making apparel with it.
  • Magnetic snap on inside, two interior pockets with zippers (two pockets in one)
  • Strap is made from chain and jump rings purchased at Michaels
  • Big front pocket with a hook closure
  • Leather side pockets for cell phone and sunglasses (so convenient!)
  • Bottom has stiff Peltex interfacing to give it some substance

I definitely needed that teflon foot on my sewing machine for this one.  Pleather is generally super sticky to work with in getting it through the machine.  This was no exception.  I had to really pull it through during the times when the pleather was on the bottom.  It was also SUPER fun to put on the handles at the sides where it was really thick.

That last part in getting the handles on is usually is the hardest part in finishing up the purse.  It is just so thick that I usually lose a needle or two in the process.  I lost one this time, but it just bent and didn’t snap in half.

All the frustration was worth it, though.  I love my new purse!
